"The Secret Loves of Geek Girls is a non-fiction anthology mixing prose, comics, and illustrated stories on the lives and loves of an amazing cast of female creators. Featuring work by Margaret Atwood (The Heart Goes Last), Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer), Trina Robbins (Wonder Woman), Marguerite Bennett (Marvel's A-Force), Noelle Stevenson (Nimona), Marjorie Liu (Monstress), Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), and over fifty more creators. It's a compilation of tales told from both sides of the tables: from the fans who love video games, comics, and sci-fi to those that work behind the scenes: creators and industry insiders"--… (más)
I read about half in one day and the other half way later on another day. I skimmed through quite a bit. It was honestly just kind of boring which bummed me out because it looked so cute! ( )
This is a lovely, gratifying collection of perspectives on what it's like to fall in and out of love as a geek girl and that how we choose to love is A-OK. The representation is super inclusive and spans a lot of geekery. There were a few essays I chose to skip when they pertained to a certain kind of geek life that I don't participate in and had a harder time following, but almost all the other essays were SPOT ON. The secret loves of geek girls.
Exuberant collection of essays and graphics celebrating the thrill of fandom: how wonderful it is to truly enjoy something, particularly in the company of like-minded others. ( )
