Sam Driver was a common man who became rich, but he wanted to be an Aristocrat and famous. In Newport they would not let him in. He forced his daughter to be like him but she resisted. She was in love with a lowly commoner. This is about the Gilded age in complete excess. ( ) I was intrigued by the idea of a novel set in the elaborate culture of Newport RI during it's heyday, but this turned out to be a good idea that wasn't realized. The characters are flat and unbelievable, and the ending doesn't have the comeuppance that is alluded to during the entire course of the book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
