DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: Whiskey, women and sleepless nights… United States Army Captain Gabriel Hastings knew he would always follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. Serving his country was his destiny. Until he fell in love… When Gabe’s love affair is cut short, he turns to whiskey for comfort and swears he will never fall in love again. Until he bumps into an unexpected angel… By all appearances, Autumn Jones has the perfect life. Her husband, Richard, is a loving man who wants to be a father to her unborn children. But Autumn knows the truth. Richard has a controlling, dark side that leaves nothing to chance, especially Autumn. He’ll stop at nothing to make her the trophy wife he wants her to be. When Autumn bumps into Gabe, he consumes her every thought, but she can’t act on her feelings. She’s married to a dark man she can never leave. When he learns who Autumn’s husband really is, Gabe knows he will stop at nothing to protect her. Or is it too late for him to save his angel? I really thought I was going to enjoy this book more, but for some reason it just fell flat for me. The synopsis was really promising and I couldn't wait to find out more about these characters and while the start draw me into the story, it felt like more a chore to read it then not. About 10% in a had a pretty good idea who Autumn's husband was and by about 60% I was about to give up and DNF because I could pretty much see how the story was going to end. I like Autumn and Gabe together but somethings annoyed me. While Autumn doesn't really trust men she sure trusted Gabe pretty quick and Gabe was determined to start a relationship with Autumn even thou he prefers to take his time with getting to know people. I just seemed conflicting to the characters personalities. While there were some parts that were entertaining, overall this story just didn't really grab my attention like I was hoping for. The character line-up in this book is so unique. We have the abused wife, the ex-army turned male escorts, the abuser husband and the best friend of the abused wife. These are all characters that are seen for who they are to the story.
Richard is a ruthless criminal who manipulated Autumn into loving and marrying him. Autumn is the unsure and naive wife, afraid to stand up for herself or walk away from her marriage. Gabe is the ex-Army Captain who lost his love in the line of fire while on deployment. He and his best friend, Paul, have moved to Vegas to continue their careers as male escorts.
Chance meetings and instant attractions are the premise of this book. Without those and secrets, this book wouldn't exist. The plot twists are steadfast. I almost got whiplash from them. Although, I figured a some of it out eventually, the shock of the ties these characters have makes the book even more addictive.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it in one sitting. I needed the ending something fierce. I wasn't willing to put it down until I got to the end. ( )
