The illustrations earned the book another star, otherwise, it was just ok. Claude goes on an adventure with his best friend the Sock. It’s silly and kind of funny, the character names are quirky and clever-ish and I think it’s meant to be charming, but it just fell short. It just felt like a series of silly little happenings with very little drama or conflict. Even the main spot of trouble wasn’t terribly troubling. It was obvious by everything else that had happened to that point that the issue would be resolved by Claude’s quick thinking and all in very short order. I can imagine kids enjoying it fine, but their parents might find themselves tired of it after a reading or two. If I or a friend were looking for a story about a dog on an adventure, I would pass up Claude and head straight to Dominic. ( )
