In this novella you are thrown right into the story without any preamble. John and Lucie first meet in book 2, I'd Rather Be in Paris, but you don't really need to have read the rest of the series to understand how this story comes about. I do however, usually like to read a full series, so I would have preferred to have at least read book 2 first, but that was my choice.
Having said that, I enjoyed this short, fast read. It is a novella, so I didn't expect great drawn out details. What I got was a punchy, fast paced story that held my attention all the way through. I could relate to the characters and their backgrounds and didn't feel as if I was missing too much. At times the storyline was a bit rushed but that sometimes happens in a novella. I'm not sure why they didn't but have one but I really could have seen this couple have their own full length novel allowing me to connect fully with the emotions of the characters.
Lucie was an independent woman, trying to find the feeling of belonging and of home, and her attraction to John gives her that feeling. John, was looking for the same thing but just hadn't acknowledged that yet. John is usually a loner but finds that he wants to know more of a 'normal' lifestyle with Lucie. Their mutual attraction is unmistakeable and hot.
I thought the action scenes were well written, fitting a lot in to the 76 pages. Although I thought the ending was a bit too rushed, the story was neatly wrapped up at the end with the characters from other books making appearances and adding to the picture of how the whole series is connected.
I have added the other books in this series to my tbr list and will look forward to reading the other characters storys.
