One of my favorite books from childhood, in fact just read it the other day and still loved it, so a favorite of adulthood also! ( )

Buffalo Gal is a story of a girl unknowningly finding herself in Oklahoma. Teenaged Amanda is taken to Oklahoma with her mother to help save he endangered buffalo. While in Oklahoma, Amanda meets a guy, David. At first Amanda and David do not get along. They fight like cats and dogs. Amanda gets to experience many of Oklahoma's greatest characteristics, deadly animals, crazy tornados etc. Slowly Amanda realizes she has grown up from the snooty rich girl she was into a smart independent woman.

Bill Wallace is an amazing author. I loved reading his novels. As a child growing up in Oklahoma, you can really relate to all of his stories. Amanda's story is much like many Oklahoma girls. That's why I loved the book.

I would have the class think back to when they were younger, how have they grow since then. Not just physically but what do they understand more now that they are older? We will evaluate emotional and psychological development unofficially.

I liked this better than I thought I would from remembering it. Amanda is about the prissiest girly-girl in every way but one- she can ride circles around everyone else. The only boy who can ride better is a rude country boy named David Talltree. Her mother has dragged her off to find some of the last of the wild buffalo with him, and she can't stand him or the wilderness. She surprises herself by falling in love with both and realizing that the wilds of Texas are better for her than San Francisco. ( )

This story is about a girl who is traveling to the west and comes across meeting people and also the dangers of traveling out in the wilderness surrounding her.

I enjoy this book because it wasd also one of the books that were read to me while I was in school. I also enjoy reading about this book because I live next to the wildlife refuge and it is amazing of the buffalo out here.

One way to involve students in this would be to create a play that would be similar to the western days of wagons traveling through the west. The students will be able to act out scenes that did or could occur in the west. ( )
