I must say that I enjoyed the first book in this series much more than this one. I really liked some parts of the but was bored or confused during other sections. I liked Jace and Ski and thought that they were great characters with excellent chemistry. I really wish that the focus of the book would have just stayed with them instead of being spread across so many characters. My main issue with this story is that there are just too many characters to keep track of which made the book hard to follow at times. I listened to the audiobook and thought that Johanna Parker did a good job with the story. I received a digital review copy of this book from Kensington Books and borrowed a copy of the audiobook from my local library. Although this series is entertaining in all its outrageousness, I get extremely annoyed with the constant petty physical fighting between clan members. I almost stopped reading this book because of it. I just think it's immature and wastes time that could be spent on the plot. I do enjoy the scheming and snarkiness but the pigheaded fighting over stupid stuff wears on me. Luckily, I decided to keep reading a little while longer because I really do like a lot of the characters and the storyline intrigued me enough to read further.ost of the infighting dwindled as the story intensified. Jace became a Crow after her cult-leader husband killed and buried her. The goddess Skuld propositioned her to serve her for a second chance at life. She crawled out of the grave as her husband was shoveling dirt on her. She attacked him but was pulled off by member of another clan who also happens to be a federal agent. Her husband went to prison and she divorced him. She is now a valued member of the Crows, women who serve Skuld. Unfortunately, her ex knows to many people in high places and is out again and wants Jace back in his cult. This worries her but she's got bigger things going on like banishing the evil goddess who has entered this realm and wants to bring the world to an end. She has to work with another clan, the Protectors, to research how to fight this goddess. She finds herself falling for one of them, Danski Eriksen. He's smart and a warrior. I have to admit, I was more into the plot than the romance in this book which will continue in the next book. Onward! Calling it. MEEHHHHHHH So I don't remember when the first came out, but the humor is so in-your-face and lacking charm, it was obnoxious. Then there's a the bit that there's way too much going on and it's not the type of story that's hitting me as right for right now. So, I guess I did successful remove the third from my shelf after all. Lots of laugh out loud moments, Ski hires Jace to translate old books, he's fascinated by her. Jace just wants to be left alone to cuddle her puppy and read books. She only takes Ski's job offer to avoid a job the other Crows might find for her. There's a crazy ex and crazy murdering goddess to fight. Love the owl characteristics of Ski and his brothers. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

I loved Jace in the first book (THE UNLEASHING) and found learning about how she became a Crow (it was spectacular, as you would expect) and learning that she's a lot like me (pet me, feed me, cuddle me...just please don't' make small talk with me) sealed the deal for me.
And Ski. By Thor's Hammer SKI. That man is perfection in fictional form. Lover of books (he's Keeper of the Word!), organization and does a very thorough job of ahem understanding Jace...
At times the book felt a little disjointed; to be honest the entire plot of Jace's ex making trouble got REALLY overshadowed by Jace & Ski's romance, the major frak up that happens because of the end of the first book and well Kera's homecoming party (which was EPIC apparently...). Her ex (or his minions) would wander in, get caught up in another plot, typically get injured (and/or die depending on the minion and plot) then wander back out again. It really only became an issue near the end when he showed up at LITERALLY the worst time ever.
There is violence a plenty (Jace is a Berserker. Don't know what a Berserker is? Think roid-rage with extra RAGE), feelings a plenty, sex is a bit slower in coming this time around, and the hilarity of watching Ski's brothers punk the living heck out of Thor. Also a trip to see Hel and poor Baldur. ( )
