This was really boring.

This is the first Jennifer Armentrout book I've read. I quite enjoyed this story, though it did take a while to get used to the shifting first person POV's. Once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The basic premise is that the heroine witnesses a crime and there are groups that want to silence her. The hero is tasked with protecting her. That said, he's not your typical hero. He's not nice. He's not particularly heroic. He's not even sure if he can protect the heroine without killing her himself. I loved watching him transition over the length of the book. I also loved that the heroine didn't put up with his crap. Their banter was delicious. I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next.

Recently read it again and liked it even more the second time around. Sign of a good book.

What can I say, I keep re-reading this book. It's a weakness. ;) ( )

5 Extraterrestrial Stars!
I can’t even Jennifer Armentrout. I freaking LOVE, LOVE her writing. I have realized I have read just about all her books, but somehow this one slipped through the cracks. It has been almost 4 years since I have read the Lux Series, and I found myself remembering its quirks throughout this book! We never heard about the Arum. They were the “bad guys”. THIS, this book was amazing!
I literally bulldozed through it, never wanting it to end.

Hunter, OHHHHH MYYY HUNTER! This book was so naughty, I was almost embarrassed reading it. I say that not because I am a prude, but because I was reading it while sitting on the couch…. With my husband….and nine-year-old daughter….having movie night…. #sorrynotsorry

Stick a fork in me, I am DONE At about 81% I was like ahhh here comes the withdrawal phase of the relationship, I knew that was coming. Slight disappointment in the cliché I-love-you-but-I-can’t-have-you mentality, but hey all parts leading up to it were well worth it. ( )

Whoa! Are you saying the Luxen are actually the bad guys. Okay, I'm thinking of the original Lux series that this adult story is a spin off of. There was no way to read this and not refer back to the Lux stories. It is one of my most favored series so I was hoping that Obsession would capture and elicit the some of the same feelings. But of course I shouldn't have had any doubts because Jennifer L. Armentrout would so not, and could not do no wrong when it comes to her compelling and absorbing storytelling and world building.

Hunter is an arum who doesn't give a shit about humans. He could care less about the fragile species. When Hunter was asked to protect human Serena Cross she starts to stir emotions in him that he can't explain. Hunter is confused as to why he's so protective of Serena and wants to be around her.

Serena can't believe that there are aliens living on earth and the government knows about it, in fact, they help them assimilate with humans. Serena was informed by her best friend about the existence of aliens and she herself witnessed the murder of her friend by an alien. Now her life is in danger and she has to be put under the protection of Hunter, an alien. Even though she can see the dark side of Hunter, there is a side to him that seems so human. She knows it's dangerous, he's dangerous but she can't seem to fight the growing feelings she's having for him. She thinks she's crazy to be falling for an alien.

Thank you Ms. Armentrout for not writing the typical annoying female. Serena might have insecurities but she didn't dwell on them and she knew she could depend on Hunter to keep her safe. I loved the part after she was kidnapped from the post office by the bad Luxen's who wanted her dead; there was no doubt in her mind that her man would come for her. I was so proud of her.

Loved seeing how Hunter's and Serena's feelings for each other grew and how Serena's trust in him developed overtime. She was very brave and not outwardly freaking out about her situation, yes she had her worries but she was able to work through them. I liked that she went with the flow most of the time and didn't succumb to Hunter's controlling nature. Hunter was a bad as they come. He doesn't like many people and was ready to do what's necessary to rectify a difficult situation, that means killing anyone who gets in his way or annoys him.

This story was hot, hot, hot. I loved everything about it but now it's provoked a need for more, more adult versions of the series. It also has me wondering back to the Lux series and what's in store in the next installments. Obsession was a captivating, thrilling, seductive read etc.

P.S. I should say that you don't have have read the original series to read this. It stands on it's own perfectly. ( )
