"There's lots of noise and excitement involved in building a library! Preschoolers will clamor to take a close look. Award-winning duo Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock are back with another rhythmic read-aloud full of bustling illustrations and sound words that beg kids to join in. Thonk! Clonk! Clap! This was a lot of fun to read. The cadence is like a dance, the words like a song, and the actions like a stage direction. It all works. And it would be really fun in story time. ( )

I thought this book was very cute- I liked it! Definitely something worth having in a younger class. Throughout the entire story, a school is being built while phases of the construction are taking place. I enjoyed the writing of the book primarily because of the rhyming scheme that occurs on each set of pages. It keeps the reader engaged. For example, on pages 3 and 4 the text states, "Fill the holes. Fill the holes. Let the concrete drop. Spread it fast before it sets. SLOOSH! SLOSH! SLOP!" The language used is very engaging, especially for young readers! I also think the illustrations do a wonderful job of getting across the information in the text. This could benefit visual learners or students who may still be learning to read/ learn certain sight words. On pages 7 and 8 I like the illustrations because they show HOW the planks of wood are being cut, and this allows young readers to VISUALIZE in their own minds, this taking place. The main idea or message of this story is that it takes a lot in the construction of buildings- probably many more steps than students may originally think! ( )
