"Jordie Thomas knew he was screwed. There were two things that he didn't want, ever, in his life. Herpes, and to be called into Elli Adler's office."

If you read Wanting to Forget novella, you'll know he's in really big trouble. If not, you'll soon find out in the opening chapter. Jordie's demons are big and he doesn't recognize the damage he is inflicting on his professional and personal relationship. The only regret he acknowledges to himself about his actions is that he has pushed away the one person who loved him no matter what, Kacey.

If you are familiar with the Assassin Series, you've had the opportunity to meet Jordie and Kacey in Laces and Lace. Never fear, if you are picking this novel as a standalone, Ms. Aleo gives you enough background to read without starting with book 1 or the novella. The Hero, Jordie, has emotional issues that he deals with by using Jack Daniels as a method of self medication. Ms. Aleo writes a very thoughtful, realistic journey in recovery. She has the character go through the path of forced rehab, realization he needs to want it, to finally acknowledging he deserves better for himself. I struggled with connecting completely to the Heroine, Kacey. I felt like there was a bit of "pot calling the kettle black" in actions. Maybe not as severe as Jordie's, but I felt like she never really owned 100% up to her actions (keeping secrets, using others to forget.)

This novel bypasses Blue Lines as my favorite in the Assassin Series. I felt like I got a deep connection with Jordie; just a clear understanding of his daily struggles. The supporting character added to the story of real life struggles. If you like stories that overcome personal adversity with very sexy scenes, this read is for you. ( )

I really enjoyed Overtime by Toni Aleo. I've been a big fan of her Assassins series, I enjoy how the hockey blends in with the romance story lines. The characters she writes come to life and deal with real life issues. I also love how she continues to weave in characters from the earlier books, it makes it like one long extended read.
If you are a fan of sports romances, especially hockey - do yourself a favor a pick up this book.
Happy Reading....enjoy! ( )

Nashville Assassins defenseman, Jordie Thomas, is given an ultimatum to clean up his act if he wants to remain on the team. He needs to face his past, including his biggest regret of letting Kacey King get away.

When I read book 6, Laces and Lace, I enjoyed Kacey and Jordie’s exchanges. They were extremely amusing. I anxiously wanted to read their story. They make an interesting couple, especially with Kacey being Karson’s sister and Jordie being Karson’s best friend. I was not disappointed. Overtime is a fantastic book that I could not put down.

I was not sure how I felt about Jordie in the previous books, but I definitely liked him in Overtime. Hearing the story from his perspective and discovering his past really made me appreciate him. My heart really went out to him. He struggles with dealing with his past and an addiction to alcohol. He works hard to turn his life around.

I really like Kacey. I love that she is a hockey Olympian and finds a profession in the hockey field. She is hard working and dedicated. She has the best family; they like to give each other a hard time (in a fun way) and care immensely for each other. She is a good person with a big heart. She has liked Jordie for a long time. I like that she does not give up on him.

I also loved hearing so much about Lacey and Karson. Just like real life, their lives are not perfect after their story is over and they have additional obstacles to overcome. I appreciate that they play an important part in Jordie and Kacey’s lives.

Once again, Toni Aleo created an emotional and believable story. The characters are down to earth and easy to like. They are not perfect, making them credible. Many fascinating and unexpected things happen throughout the story. In addition, many real life issues make the novel inspiring.
