I received this book in exchange for my honest and fair review. This is book one in the JJ SToner Short Story series. I think this book has potential but it fell short in a lot of ways for me. First, the beginning did not flow smoothly at all. It was written very choppy and I didn't really know what was going on in the beginning. Since it was a short story I figured I would stick with it and the story did start to flow better after the first chapter or so. That said, it was a bit predictable and lacked the excitement I think it could have had with a little more imagination. I would not recommend this book. ( )

Fast paced short story about a soldier doing his job, killing. Stoner is a strong-minded and efficient but lacks the depth of a lead character. It was a good introduction to a new series. ( )

This short story held my attention: the main character was developing throughout; the story was suspenseful and the writing was brisk.
I received this as a LibraryThing Member GiveAway - thank you. ( )

An action packed assassin thriller with plenty of twists and turns. The main character is well developed for a short story. Plenty of violence abounds to keep the readers attention. A book that is hard to put down. I highly recommend this book for mature readers. Will definitely be reading more of the Stoner Series. ( )

Sergeant J.J. Stoner has done the “wrong thing” when he shoots and kills 5 Iraqi civilians, one of which has just killed a member of his unit. By doing this “wrong thing” he is recruited as an assassin by an unnamed organization, which wipes his military record clean.
His first assignment or contract goes a little wrong. It’s an OOPS moment for J.J., he killed the wrong man. But no need to get flustered he just wants the right target pointed out to him. He won’t make a second mistake, because the organization paying him wouldn’t want a second mistake.
In this very short story, an introduction to J.J. Stoner is the goal. Here the author provides a large as life character with a background and now a goal. In just a few sentences you get the gist of who Stoner is and how he has and will live his life.
I’m not sure I liked or admired the character but he is powerful in his pull. I was not able to set the book down until I finished, and I am still trying to decide if I like or admire J.J. Stoner. I will be reading more books in this series to see where his story leads.

I received a copy of this from the author for a honest review. ( )
