They'd shared one wild weekend of passion, then she'd left without a word. Five years later, Nola Seabrook tracked down Captain Rick DeMassi to apologize for her hasty departure, not realizing this fresh encounter would lead to Rick moving in with her...as her bodyguard. Playing protector to his ex-lover had not been Rick's plan. But disturbing letters and a nearly fatal car bomb soon had him jumping into action. He fully intended to protect Nola with his life, find out why she'd been so quick to leave his bed...and do whatever was necessary to get her back in it. Catherine Mann is an engaging writer, though she sometimes packs the danger and adventure in to a point it starts to become a little hard to connect with the story. Not that we see much of this adventure, but the characters’ backstories are definitely full of drama. Fully Engaged suffers from the shorter category length, but kept me hooked from start to finish.
I did think that maybe the characters were a little too damaged physically. This must be the only book I’ve read where the hero spends the entire time on crutches. It would have been nice to have him a little more recovered before the story began!
The romance progressed nicely, and was certainly the main focus of the story. In romantic and military romantic suspense I generally prefer more of a balance between the action and the romance. I like to feel the danger the characters are in for the duration of the book. Here, the danger was only there sometimes.
I did enjoy this book however, and I plan to read more of this author’s work. ( )
