While I tagged this book as nonfiction, the author explains that she has made changes to "protect the integrity of the tale." Let me just add that I found the descriptions of her choices and treatment potentially helpful and the last page of the story (see Last Words) most meaningful! I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I like the way she organized it and I thought it was a wonderful discussion of the connection between a woman and her teetas. I especially enjoyed the way she illustrated her emotions. I could see what she meant without her having to say it. I enjoy the way her mind works. Excellent graphic memoir. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

When Jennifer Hayden was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 43, she realized that her tits told a story. Across a lifetime, they'd held so many meanings: hope and fear, pride and embarrassment, life and death. And then they were gone. Now, their story has become a way of understanding her story. Growing up flat-chested and highly aware of her inadequaciesâ?¦ heading off to college, where she "bloomed" in more ways than oneâ?¦ navigating adulthood between her mother's mastectomy, her father's mistress, and her musician boyfriend's problems of his own-not to mention his sprawling family. Then the kids come alongâ?¦ As cancer strikes three different lives, some relationships crumble while others emerge even stronger, and this sarcastic child of the '70s finally finds a goddess she can believe in. For everyone who's faced cancer personally, or watched a loved one fight that battle, Hayden's story is a much-needed breath of fresh air, an irresistible blend of sweetness and skepticism. Rich with both symbolism & humor, The Story of My Tits will leave you laughing, weeping, and feeling grateful for e No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

This was an interesting read. She goes through her life using her breasts as the focal point of what happens or doesn't happen in her life. As she grows up flat-chested, goes off to college where she finally starts to get breasts, she sees the impact they have on her life. As her mother goes through breast cancer and her father chooses his mistress, Jennifer has to decide where her loyalties lie. As her mother-in-law develops breast cancer and has great family support, Jennifer sees how the journey through cancer can bring people closer. Then she develops cancer, and she has to go through the same decisions as her mother and mother-in-law, but with small children yet to be reared in the picture. She finds out that no one has set answers. Each person and life is different so choices will be individualized.
With this graphic novel, I got a look at how lives are impacted for good or bad as the woman and her family go through the battle with breast cancer. I have been blessed that our family has not had to go through this. This is worth the read. ( )
