Mara is a perfectionist until someone posts a video of her anxiety-driven panic attack that goes viral. Now she is faced with trying to find balance in her suddenly changed world.

This was a cute and fun read. My only problem with it was that teens don’t talk like some of the characters in this book did. ( )

Mara James is well known for acing her tests, being super organized, making lists and just being a huge overachiever in everything. Because of her well documented reputation for perfectionism, when she has a meltdown in her calculus exam, rips up her test and walks out, it gets videotaped and then posted to You Tube where it goes viral in an astoundingly short time. Deciding that she just can't face school and her friends after her psychotic break, she decides to escape to Tahoe to live with her ski bum father, Trick, about whom she knows almost nothing. He agrees, and she goes to spend the rest of that school year with him. Tahoe turns out to be nothing like what she imagined but also more than she could have hoped for. What will happen when her school year is up, and it's time to head home? An entertaining story for young adults who have had moments in their lives when they realize that trying to make everybody else happy doesn't make sense. ( )

The Possibility of Now had a book trailer that came with the DVD for my book fair. I didn't find the book trailer to be very well put together, so I was intrigued as to whether or not the book would match my perceptions of the book. The book was a quick, light, and easy read, but was pretty predictable and only a bit better than the book trailer. I can see girls in particular enjoying this book, as they may relate to some of the changes Mara experiences and struggles with. I can see this book possibly being used in literature circles, or as a way to get middle school kids talking about the changes and social changes they experience. ( )
