2015-05-23/100%: The first half wasn't bad. The second half was totally unnecessary. JCW doesn't seem to be a bad writer, he just doesn't pick very interesting subject matter and then he drones on for way too long. Actually, this and Pale Realms of Shade are interesting enough, they're very... abstract? thinky? They're exactly the kind of thing I thought the Puppies weren't supposed to like. I thought the Puppies were all about action packed fun but their nominations haven't sustained that idea. This one has some action but no fun. The aforementioned PRoS is interesting, but no action thus far (I'm probably about 50%, maybe less) and certainly no fun. The Parliament of Beasts and Birds had neither action or fun, just a bunch of animals sitting around talking. One Bright Star to Guide Them had some attempts at action, though I didn't think much of them, and there was nothing I thought was fun. I think JCW got so many noms because he was the best writer they could think of with the right politics. Sadly, that says more about what Puppies read than it does anything else.

He read a thesaurus from from 1808 and by damn he's going to use every one of those flowery words cause they prove he's better than you. I think that explained a bit about his writing although, thankfully he manages to rein most of it in. ( )
