I had not realized until reading this book how notable the Ozette diggings were in archaeological circles. This is a nice, moderate length book on the unearthing of prehistoric Makah houses in an old village at Ozette. An excellent book for lay archaeologists. I now plan to visit the museum in Neah Bay where the artifacts are displayed. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
This book is a concise but fully illustrated account of the Makahvillage site of Ozette, located on the Olympic Peninsula in Washingtonand excavated in the 1970s. Excavations at the site, which wasabandoned as a village in the early twentieth century, revealedwell-preserved houses and artifacts buried by a mudslide in thesixteenth century, including normally highly perishable wood andbasketry objects. This engaging book provides the first comprehensiveaccount of the site and its significance outside more technicalarchaeological reports. Kirk's deep familiarity with the site andits excavation and her skills as a writer allow her to offer both clearexplanation of how the work proceeded and why.
