IT IS JUST ANOTHER NIGHT IN THE NAPPING HOUSE!
This time, the ones in the house are not sleeping. They are restless with a bright full moon shining!
*eyes wide awake*

~Just like "The Napping House", this book has repetition and is written as a chain tale/cumulative. It starts with one line and keeps adding more lines as each page continues until the end of the book. This leads to repetition, which is great for children.
Other examples of a chain tale/cumulative tale are “This Is The House That Jack Built” and "The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly".

~Just a short example of how this book is written:
"There is a house, a full-moon house, where everyone is restless.
And in that house, there is a bed, a wide-awake bed in a full-moon house, where everyone is restless.
And in that bed, there is a granny, a sleepless granny in a wide-awake bed in a full-moon house, where everyone is restless...."
...... and so on

~Audrey Wood's books ("The Napping House" and "The Full Moon at Napping House") are two a great book if you are looking repetition in books that children can catch on pretty fast. ( )

As a companion to "The Napping House," Audrey and Don Wood create yet another perfect atmosphere for bedtime in "The Full Moon at the Napping House." The book follows the same characters, except this time none of them can seem to fall asleep. The bright full moon is the culprit behind their restlessness, until one by one they settle into bed. Audrey Wood continues her cumulative writing style and Don Wood recreates the perfect mood with his use of cool color schemes. ( )

The Woods have done it again! Their classic, "The Napping House," has a companion. Rhyming and rhythmic text merrily gallops along the pages, in a similar fashion as the original. Due to the full moon, though, it works in reverse.

So it begins: "There is a house,

a full-moon house,

where everyone is restless."

Most of the characters are the same. Granny, the child, the dog, a cat, a mouse, and a cricket (instead of the flea). They are sleepless, fidgety, playful, prowling, worried, and chirping, respectively, but not cozy, snoring, dreaming, dozing, snoozing, nor napping!

Don Wood is the illustrator, using the same vivid blues and warm tones so we have this feeling that there is something quite familiar, that we just might know this book, yet we do NOT! It is great fun in a whole new way!
