Usually I write reviews as soon as I finish a book and it's still fresh in my mind. However, after I finished reading this one, I had to take a few days to process things before I could sit down and write my review. I wanted to give myself some time to analyze what I loved about The V Girl and what I didn't love so much. After weighing the pros and cons, I feel that this could've easily been a 5 star read.
The premise was captivating and I agree with the idea that Lila would want to lose her virginity on her own terms. The problem is that in my opinion, Lila was all over the place and I just couldn’t follow her train of thought. She reminded me of Katy Perry's song Hot N Cold, she changed her mind every 2 seconds and there were times when she got on my nerves so much that I couldn't really enjoy my reading. She would totally contradict herself from one page to the next so I had a hard time understanding her and trying to relate to her. That being said, there were also times when I was so engrossed in the story that I read past my bedtime and just devoured page after page. I guess the character of Lila just requires patience. Aleksey on the other hand was amazing. I absolutely loved him right from the start and maybe that's why I was so annoyed that Lila couldn't see how great he was. In my humble opinion, this relationship felt very "one sided" when it could've been so perfect. This made me kind of sad and even at the end, I just expected more from Lila.
I also would've liked to see a little more world building because some things didn't quite make sense to me. Most of the book was centered around rape, more rape, sex and Lila's constantly conflicting emotions. However, if you can muster up plenty of patience, this can be a great, unforgettable book because the good definitely outweighs the bad. This is why, after letting the book sink in, I'm only taking off half a star for the things I didn't like.
