Tytti Vertainen has run out of patience. Staff Writer at the Tapiolinna Times, she has spent enough of her life churning out standard news content to fill a word count. Yesterday her boss, too hungover to care, had let her chase up a promising lead; a police report on some break cables being cut. At the scene of the crime, squatting and peering under the front wheel of a car, she had looked on aghast as she saw the culprit return. A squirrel no less. But fortune takes a turn when she receives a tip-off letter telling her a murder has been committed on the island. Her first question is whose? No body has been found. Undaunted by a lack of clues she jumps to accept the anonymous challenge. If she can keep her enquiries secret and avoid her meddling boss, she might just be able to solve the crime and break the story. The Lazy Days of Temptation is a novel set among the shallow seas and lofty pines of Finland. Detective work soon supplants the frequent cups of coffee as Tytti, jolted from her everyday routine, sets out to find a murderer.… (más)

This is a slow moving crime novel. A not very thrilling thriller. Despite these two rather negative sounding comments though, I thought the book was just a delight.

As perhaps the title suggests it is a quite, slow, but none-the-less enjoyable read that captures a great picture of life in Finland, a country I really know precious little about. Now perhaps I know just a little more and it has left me wanting to visit!

The characters are well developed. I got the sense that I really understood, and empathized with the main protagonist. I enjoyed sharing in her daily adventures as she worked as a journalist intent on solving a mystery, at whatever cost to her career and friendships. I kept turning the pages, not so much as to find out whodunnit but just to find out what happened next to our hero and to learn a little more about the wonderful rural Finnish environment the author so skillfully presents. Was given this book in exchange for honest review. The characters are very well - developed, although I must admit I do not like some of them at all, but that's what make this novel even more honest. Love the scenery description of Finland, by the way. What I don't like at first is the slow pace, but it all leads up to this satisfaction of an ending, so I guess is okay, and probably that's what it feels like in Finland too: peaceful and relaxing.

Sorry if my rambling makes zero sense :c. ( )

was given this book in exchange for a review. I loved the descriptions of Finland. It made me want to go and visit, The characters were quite well developed but not very likeable. The main character, Tytti, was honest to a fault. She insisted on honesty although it sometimes hurt people. Her childhood friend, Kai, seemed a bit of a bore. Not much occurred until the last quarter of the book then the action stepped up a bit. There was a twist at the end; not what was expected. I guess the book conforms to the pace of life on a Finnish island where not a lot happens. This was a pleasant read but not very exciting ( )

Set in modern day Finland, this is the story of twenty-five year old Tytti Vertainen, a writer for Tapiolinna Times, a Finnish weekly, who inwardly mourns the death of her longtime boyfriend while pulling herself together to write acceptable articles for the Tapiolinna Times. Then, after attending a potentially newsworth event, Tytti finds a long white envelope in the pocket of her handknit cardigan. A note inside the envelope invites her to investigate a fire that might help solve a murder. Could this involve Kai, her childhood friend and son of the Tapiolinna Times'owner, his mother Anna, or even his grandmother? Good character development, good dialogue and an incredible plot makes "The Lazy Days of Temptation" a good addition to mystery lovers' reads. ( )

Tytti Vertainen held the letter of complaint up to her nose, a three-page lament on the content of the Tapiolinna Times, a sleepy island weekly from the Finnish archipelago.
