I'm almost positive I read this when it first came out and never marked it on goodreads because every scene felt super familiar. But... I still loved this. Luca was just amazing and dark and broody. I can't wait to read Gianna's book. ( ) I'm not going to waste much time on this review. I needed to read some mafia related books for a challenge. This series is free on Kindle Unlimited and they only take a couple hours to read so I'm in for a few more. At fifteen Aria Scuderi, the eldest daughter of a the consigliere of the Chicago Outfit, is promised to Luca Vitiello, the soon to be leader of the New York Famiglia. The Italian families need to have a truce so they can work together to eliminate the Russian Bratva, who are trying to take over their turf. The wedding is scheduled right after her eighteenth birthday. Aria is a naive virgin who has never even been kissed. Luca is a cold hearted Italian alpha male who is feared and respected by his men. His nickname is The Vice which he got after his first kill at age 13. Women immediately rip off their clothes when he gives them the high sign. Lots of graphic sex, lots of swearing, and lots of violence and torture, but I can't complain since all that was clearly stated in the book summary. It would be like saying there's too much religion in a Christian fiction novel. I found the spelling and editing errors to be annoying, but with over 1100 Amazon reviews averaging 4.5 Stars, I think I'm in the minority. My brain was dying a slow and painful death but I will probably read a couple more for my challenge. I didn't expect to like this book nearly as much as I did. I thought that Cora Reilly would glorify the Mafia, and possibly glorify rape. It felt very raw and real to me. Of course, it was a love story, but Reilly made it very plain that forced marriages many times ended in rape and unhappiness. Luca is a bad person. Unlike a Beauty and the Beast situation, the book didn't try to make him out to be a misunderstood bad guy. I respect that he is an unrepentant killer. Most of all I respect Reilly for not being afraid to write an unrepentant killer as the love interest. In summary, read the book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Born into one of the leading Mob families in Chicago, Aria Scuderi struggles to find her own path in a world where no choices are given. Aria was only fifteen when her parents betrothed her to Luca Vitiello, the oldest son of the head of the New York Cosa Nostra to ensure peace between the two families. Now with eighteen, the day Aria has been dreading for years is looming dangerously: her wedding to Luca. Aria is terrified of marrying a man she hardly knows, especially someone like Luca who got his nickname 'the Vice' for crushing a man's throat with his bare hands. Luca might be one of the most sought after men in New York thanks to his good looks, wealth and predator-like charisma that radiates power, but the society girls throwing themselves at him don't know what Aria does: that the bad boy aura isn't just a game; blood and death lurk beneath Luca's striking gray eyes and arrogant smile. In her world a handsome exterior often hides the monster within; a monster who can just as easily kill as kiss you. The only way to escape the marriage to Luca would be to run away and leave everything she's ever known behind but Aria can't bear the thought of never seeing her family again. Despite her fear, she decides to go through with the marriage; Aria has grown up among predators like Luca and knows that even most cold-hearted bastards have a heart and she has every intention of working her way into Luca's.
