A fun book to incorporate in when learning about coming to American and all the issues new settlers faced, or mystery issues they faced. Would be a good book to read around Halloween as well, in the spirit of mystery. ( ) An amazing unsolved mystery book from Jane Yolen and Heidi Elisabet Yolen Stemple with illustrations by Roger Roth. This book talks about John White who lead a group to the lost colony of Roanoke. They encounter native Americans who they did not trust and who also did not trust them. There were a lot of killing and when they ran low on supplies John White went back to England to get more supplies. By the time he got back the whole place was deserted and the only thing he saw was the name Croatoans left on the tree. Jane Yolen does a very good job with writing unsolved mystery books using history. It puts a fun twist on the things that kids are learning or already know. Authors Jane Yolen and Heidi Elisabet Yolen Stemple, along with illustrator Roger Roth take the readers back in time to the colony of Roanake in 'Roanoke The Lost Colony--An Unsolved Mystery From History'. In 1590 when John White, who lead a group of people to the colony Roanoke, made it back to the colony after leaving the new colonists there three years prior in an attempt to return to England to gather supplies needed. He returned to an empty, and ransacked colony, just as they found the area when they settled there. The authors and illustrator use this time and place in the "dangerous" new world to create a what if story about the mystery behind the lost colony. The creative team made use of the Englishman and the natives of the land as a suspect factor for White's missing colonists. The distrust of the Native Americans and the different tribes, including the Croatoans, whose name was left carved in a palisade post as one of the onkly clues, helped set the stage for the answers to come in this "Mystery from History" about the colonists' disappearance. A great suspense from our History books with unsolved mystery in hisory. Mr. White and Sir Walter Raleigh as a relief from the war with England and Spain, established a colony iin 1587. After establish the colony in Roanoake, many of the men became discouraged and returned to England. Jane Yolen has done once again an impeccable job of telling this prodigy story. The illustrations by Roger Roth were completed in several stages. First, thumbnaiil sketches. Then large detail drawings placed on water color paper, then painted pics using transparent watercolors, adding pencil for detail and texture. The life- like drawings are captivating and realistic.. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
