Although I read the Laura Ingalls Wilder series many times as a kid, I don't think I was quite the fan that Chloe is. I really liked the idea of these two sisters, who played Laura and Mary as kids, would get a chance to go to so many sites where Laura and the Ingalls lived. Chloe will be speaking at a meeting about the historical accuracy of LIW households, ie, butter churning, and the two also bring a family friend's quilt that may or may not have a connection to Laura herself, which they are hoping to authenticate. They are dogged at each site by strange accidents, ardent fans and grumpy scholars. The mystery was pretty good, but one thing that stood out was how well Ernst handled the various bits of Laura lore. There are fans of the books, fans of the show and people who want the unvarnished truth only. She described Chloe's confusion well, as some of her childhood memories of these books dovetailed with some of the realities of the hard life of the Ingalls and Wilder families. Chloe Ellefson and her sister, Kari, have long dreamed of visiting each historic site dedicated to Laura Ingalls Wilder. When Chloe takes custody of a quilt once owned by the beloved author, the sisters set out on the trip of a lifetime, hoping to prove that Wilder stitched it herself.
