I am a huge Holly Black fan. I consider her Modern Faerie Tales and Curse Workers series to be two of my favorites. When I saw she was writing a new fairy book I was beyond excited. This is not a continuation of her Modern Faerie Tales series (that I can tell) but that didn't dim my excitement in the least. Unfortunately reading these 7 chapters was the cause of the actual loss of that excitement.

The first 7 chapters just feel tangled, and in some ways the tangling is fun. It promises untangling and that's always good. That said, a lot of it just feels like poor timing in the writing and hiding a secret for several chapters only to spill it at a random time. It just feels like it needed to be neatened and tucked in a little better.

I am still excited to read this book but I realize it will not likely be as much fun for me as her other series. I hope to be proven wrong as I get into the full book! ( )
