Very quick read. The subject matter was totally alien to me as I've never seen nor been interested in anything related to Lon Chaney, but it seemed humorous and heartwarming and well-written. I say, if you're considering reading it or suggesting it to your nephew (for example), get a copy from the library. You might love it enough to buy it if you are a fan of those old movie monsters. This book is about a boy who wanted to make his face up in different ways. One of his make overs became very popular around the city. A man came to him and thanked him for doing what he was doing because he brought out something that was inside him. Mr. Shadows "died" a while ago and the boy bought him back. ( )

Alonzo King loves horror films, monsters and disguises. This is because he was born on Halloween. He watches all the spooky movies on channel 37. Mr. Shadows is the host of his favorite program, Monsters at Midnight.
Alonzo is in love with Lon Chaney from Phantom of the Opera. He wants to be called the boy with a Thousand Faces. Alonzo only has twenty three faces perfected when he sends his scariest into Mr. Shadow. Little does he know his dream is about to come true. ( )

Alonzo King was born on Halloween and is obsessed with monsters and monster movies. He wants to be able to disguise himself like his hero, Lon Chaney. He decides to write a letter to the host of the television show Monsters at Midnight and that's is when his life becomes more exciting. Soon there are rumors of a mysterious beast lurking around the town and everyone wants Alonzo's advice. He also discovers there is more to his friendly mailman than he had previously thought. This is good book to use in the classroom to talk about prediction, imagination, and believing in yourself. ( )

Read this out loud A LONG time ago. Picked up a used copy today for the Little Free Library stock and the boy devoured it first. ( )
