Blood Magic is an exhilarating introduction into the DarkWorld: Should Tracker series by T.G. Ayer. It grabs you from the get go. It’s an action-packed fast-paced mystery that keeps you on your toes. I couldn’t put it down.

I throughly liked the idea, mystery, and scenarios that played out in this story along with the supernatural twists.

Mel, I liked. Her character was easy to connect to. She’s enjoyable, appealing, can get out of most situations, magical, capable, and has some great friends plus a background that is just beginning to be told. She is strongly dedicated to what she does and won’t give up on those she made promises too. She puts everyone before herself and her abilities are unique and rare. Those abilities that she has where very intriguing. It just added to Mel’s uniqueness.

The secondary characters where captivating. I really enjoyed her little gang she has and the love interest that shows up. It was fascinating to find out what and who this love interest is. Though we have a love interest and these awesome friends, our main focus is on solving the mystery and rescuing a little girl.

We do get a few questions answered, yet more questions come up. The ending left me wanting the next book now, so I could dig deeper into the mystery that is left open and those questions still unanswered.

A few things did bother me. Her abilities or at least one was to be a secret, yet I felt everyone knew about it. I also felt like to many things where left open. To many questions at the end.

Blood Magic is a riveting urban fantasy full of mystery that keeps you guessing. I had a delightful time reading and can’t wait to get my hands on book two and find out what happens next.

In the DarkWorld the things that go bump in the night are most likely true. And the problem is they are probably not sticking to bumping around in the night. They are everywhere. Your work colleagues, your teachers, even your friends. They’ve been living that way for a long time. And you haven’t noticed becsuse they don’t want you to.
You’re much better off not asking any questions.

Add another exciting story to Ms. Ayer's ever-growing library of paranormal / urban fantasy stories. Melisande Morgan has spent the bulk of her life searching for her missing sister. Her sister who disappeared the same night Mel watched her parents murdered, close enough to feel their still warm blood hit her face. So she's got some serious energy pushing her to locate & rescue her little sister.

Unfortunately she's also got one pissed off detective riding her ass day and night. When he can't solve a case it usually gets brought to Mel by the missing person's family. And Mel's closure rate is close to 100%, even if it doesn't always mean they get their loved one back alive. At least they get the body and some closure, which is more than Det. Fulbright ever gave her.

This time around Mel is up against some serious dark magic, which means she has to go to the dark side to crack the spell. All her friends advise against it, but they know she can't leave this little girl where she is for much longer. With the help of her former teacher Samuel, Mel has become one of the best Trackers there is, though she blames herself for Samuel's current condition. So she is leery of any of her other friends helping her. But Drake is a real, live gargoyle, so she couldn't stop him even if she wanted to. With Drake by her side, Mel sets off to rescue her latest charge.

But life never works out the way you expect it to, so she ends up working with Detective Fulbright's latest partner, Saleem, who just happens to be a djinn (djinn are demons who have lived in the human realm for so long that they pass for human). Saleem is helping Mel because he needs her help. But what are they going to do about their very intense attraction to each other? Especially once Mel learns more about who Saleem really is.

Even if they save the girl, they'll still be going up against some pretty powerful players to get Saleem's loved one back - if they survive that long. But Mel intends to do whatever it takes to survive that long, because she can't rest until her sister is home safe.

Full of action, emotion, magic, and just great characters, this is start of yet one more exciting spin-off series by Ms. Ayer. And it looks as if it could grow some legs and stand alone just fine, developing a following all of its own. I know I certainly plan on reading the next book in the series as soon as it comes out, and I'm already anticipating a third book, if I get so lucky! ( )
