In the latest tantalizing Rule Breakers novel from Jennifer Chance, an irresistible alpha male follows his ex into a deadly standoff--and reignites a heated affair.   For Erin Connelly, being a good girl isn't such a bad thing. She's working her dream job at a Boston art gallery and staying out of trouble, which is more than she can say for her deadbeat mom. Unfortunately, her mother's latest misadventure lands her in the clutches of a Mexican drug lord. Now the only person who can save her is the one man Erin has no business asking for help: the sexy-as-sin army ranger who just so happens to be her former high school sweetheart.   Zander James is no gentleman--and no officer, either, thanks to Erin. Four years ago, she made a call that terminated his highest aspirations . . . and their relationship. He's never forgiven her, but when he learns that Erin's embarking on a half-baked rescue mission, he sure as hell can't let her go alone. Now, with a treacherous enemy lying in wait, the electrifying tension between them may just be Zander's undoing. Because while he may be able to keep Erin alive, he can't promise to keep his hands off her. Praise for Want It   "This book has depth, passion, and hot sex scenes that will leave you breathless. Book 3 in the "Rule Breakers" series but could be read as a standalone

The death of Zander's father is the chance for Erin to reconnect with him and to ask him for advice on a difficult situation she has to deal with. So she took it. But it's not so simple for Erin to face Zander given how it ended between them and how she still feel for him! Zander, for his part, is still full of anger for Erin's betrayal four years ago but he can't deny he still very attracted to her. When Erin starts asking him strange questions about contraband and guns, Zander also can't help himself for feeling way more protective of her than he should and so he decides to follow her in whatever dangerous mission she had put her mind on to accomplish. And we all know what happens when you mix dangerous situations, an alpha male worth his name and pent up emotions between that alpha male and his damsel in distress....

First of all, I'd like to point out that Erin is really not a "damsel in distress": she's on the other hand a quite strong and steady woman, one who had to face many bad situations on her own. I liked her right from the start!
Zander, though, is an alpha male through and through. But the good kind of alpha male (really, trust me!)...how could I not like him?!
As a matter of fact if I had to choose the thing I liked the most about [b:Want It|22676320|Want It (Rule Breakers, #3)|Jennifer Chance|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1404785634s/22676320.jpg|42182918] that would be Erin & Zander! Both of them!
I liked them as individuals, but I liked them even more when they were together. They had great chemistry and it showed when they were intimate with each other (there are some HOT scenes in the book to look forward -or back- to).
The storyline about Erin's mother and her rescuing sort of fell in second place to me (as it probably should be) but I felt that was true for the author also. Let's put it this way: there's a point in the story where the author should have probably explained a little more about the whys and hows Erin's mother fall in that situation. And also the resolution of that same situation wasn't exactly examined in depth. As I said, it didn't bother me much since I was focused more on other things, but some readers could be annoyed by this so I felt it should be pointed out.

In the end, this was a 3.5 stars read for me. I definitively enjoyed it!
I'd like, at last, to thank the author for the opportunity to read the ARC of her book for free and I hope she appreciates my honest review ( )

****Full Review****

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Erin needs some helpful tips, specifically tips on how to negotiate with people who take your irresponsible mother and her boyfriend hostage. As Erin is an artist and fairly introverted she doesn’t quite have the circle of friends that have these expertise either. When she receives an email from her ex-boyfriend’s mother with the date and time of his father’s funeral she recalls that he is in the military and may just have the knowledge of skills she so desperately needs. The fact that Erin hasn’t spoken to him in four years and oh yeah, she basically destroyed his life when she inadvertently got him arrested shouldn’t harm her chances of getting his help at all. When Zander comes face to face with Erin he is shocked and starts to feel all his old emotions of anger along with some lingering attraction. When he finds out the kind of trouble she is in there is no way he is going to let her leave his side. As they work to save Erin’s mother they have to decide if past hurts can be forgiven in favor of future relationships.

In the beginning Erin seemed somewhat naïve, from the way she approached her mother’s hostage situation to how and what questions she asked Zander not thinking he wouldn’t be extremely scrutinizing of why she needed the answers she did. Erin never fully crosses over to TSTL territory but there were times I had to remind myself she was only twenty-two and lacking in world experience to help explain her actions. Zander was the complete opposite, I kept checking to make sure he was suppose to be only twenty-two because of the way he was written with such strength of maturity and the story thread of him being heavily recruited by a private security agency. Zander does have a wealth of real world experience and being in heavy stress situations but some instances seemed out of reach for a twenty-two year old. The first half of the book I loved how Erin and Zander interacted, they were very normal with each other in terms of dialogue. Erin's wide-eyed in over her head played well against Zander's man of the world protectiveness. They were funny and cute together with an overlap of things left unsaid and unsettled hanging over them.

The second half of the book didn’t work as well for me as the hostage situation came more into play or was suppose to. When Erin and Zander get down to Mexico the pace slowed way down and while their bedroom scenes (and pool scene) heated up, my interest cooled off. The suspense angle fizzled as the bad guys showed up only to disappear again and again in choppy intervals and then were beaten in a fairly anticlimactic way. The story focuses pretty much on Erin and Zander so secondary characters were largely in the background. As this is third in a series, there were a couple characters I could tell were from previous books but they did not play a significant role in the story and I would say this could easily pass as a standalone.

While Erin and Zander actually falling in love is kind of missed as this happened when they were teenagers, their current dialogue and interactions were cute and appealing. The first half had me invested but unfortunately the middle and last half lost its way focusing on a few repetitive bedroom scenes. However, if you’re just looking for a stalwart soldier and babe in the woods themed quick romance, the solid writing here could make this an option.

Want It is the story of a teenaged heartbreak made up of control, confusion and fear which turns into adult anger and resentment…but that is me just making the story too simple.
One night changed Erin’s and Zander’s life for good, and anger and a poor decision destroyed their blossoming romance. Erin continued with life and Zander went into the Army. Four years later Zander is forced to come home for his father’s funeral and the last person he expects to see is Erin. But once he sees her, he doesn’t seem to want to let her go. After managing to talk her into coming back to his parents’ house after the funeral, he is blown away at what Erin asks…
Erin has not had an easy 4 years since Zander left; she has struggled with her guilt over that fateful night. As well as struggled to keep her life together after her grandmother died, not to mention dealing with her mother…a mother that no one knows about, a mother that Erin is ashamed of. Now her mother has got herself into a whole lot of trouble and has dragged Erin into the mix. Erin goes to the one person who can give her the advice…that is, if he will speak to her.
I was so excited to read this book, the blurb made it sound like such a hot and exciting read. And while that it true for most of the book, the story didn’t flow as smoothly as I would have liked. It seemed to just from one characters POV to another, without giving me a clear picture of the story. The only other part of the book that I wasn’t keen on was that it had flashbacks.
Despite those small annoyances, the chemistry between the characters Zander and Erin was explosive, and I don’t just mean in the carnal way ;-) At times Erin comes off as a little wooden and Zander a bit of an arse, but I thought it added to the complexity of the characters.
Overall, an enjoyable book, I give it 7 out of 10. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Excellent! I love this series by Jennifer Chance and this one is a great addition. This is a second chance story with a twist of suspense and it's very well done. After four years Erin and Zander are reunited after a bad teenage break-up. Erin is in trouble and needs Zander's help but will he forgive her enough to help? Get this one and find out, I highly recommend it! ( )

3.5 Stars

First time I've read this author and although it's a series each book can be a stand-alone. This wasn't too bad a story, it was just nothing I hadn't read before. I did enjoy the second chance romance. I'd probably read Jennifer's books again sometime in the future.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. ( )
