A masquerade marriage/a marriage of convenience as this story is can be loved or hated … Me? I'm half in love. It was SCOTTISH, and I found the wonderful SCOTTISH brogue that I love so much. ( ) As awkward as an arrangement for a marriage bond may be, this one has a happy ending. A girl from the wrong side of the tracks (lowland Scotland) is promised by her father in an arranged marriage brokered by the mother of a snooty English Duke. She knows nothing of him or his family. Turns out he has a secret past and is suffering for a type of PTSD from observing a battle that he was scheduled to be commanding but managed to buy his way out from the English King. His guilt over the senseless murder, rape and mayhem causes blackouts. These episodes cause him to be absent from his new wife for much of the day. She cannot fathom where he spends his time and feels that she has been merely assigned to be a brood mare so he may keep his fortune. The story tells of how they work out these problems and reconcile their misunderstandings. It's an historical, Christian lit, romance.
