This crime thriller has a fast-paced and intricate plot about a family living in Cleveland but with ancestral ties to Ukraine. The father of the clan was a gangster who had five children. Two of his grandchildren had the same name—both were named after him. This leads to a mix-up that precipitates all of the action in the book. The story is good fun and certainly engaging with all of the elements of good crime fiction, including mystery, exotic locations, violence, plotting and revenge. The five sibling characters are well developed and each has a unique character with many of the usual petty jealousies and rivalries that would be ordinary if not for the high stakes involved in the plot. Unlike the members of the Hightower family, the antagonists are stereotypical brutal bad guys who are motivated by greed and little compunction about using violence and torture to achieve their ends. I wish that these characters were fleshed out more and that the psychological tensions between the five siblings were better developed. ( )
