It's difficult to comprehend how, in The Christmas Mouse, grandmotherly Mrs Berry sent a nine-year-old boy to walk 3 miles home alone in the middle of the night. ( ) Spending the holidays in England is my favorite travel pleasure. The smell of fires burning in cozy fireplaces, walking down wooded lanes, listening to choirs sing, drinking hot spiced rum, trying to warm up as the chill envelopes me...but hey, you can also get all that by reading this treasure. The characters are from a bygone era that still existed on the Sceptered Isle as late as the mid 1980s, but alas, have been swallowed up in the rush to American consumerism. Still, when the rain arrives and the temperature drops, and the leaves fall, pick up this book and cuddle up in your reading chair. Book season = Winter This book was my christmas lucky dip at reading group. Miss Read is a popular and well respected author and her books have been loved by many readers. Her stories are set in the villages of Fairacre and Thrush Green. I have tried to read this book but found it very charming and very twee. It reminded me of Midsomer but without the murders. Not really my cup of tea but loved by many. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
