I'm one of those readers who resents repetition and over-stated internal reasoning (and repetition of that as well), so although I liked these characters, and the plot was fine generally, the irritation had gotten pretty serious by the last 10% of the story, particularly when I knew what was going to happen.

Minus a star for annoying me with what felt like padding the word count.

But worst, minus a star for the attitude 180 the son does. *I* caught that Julian had talked to his mother and her husband, but of all the things not to state, let alone state more than once, that was a big mistake.

This is an okay romance, if you understand that Malachi is the oldest person in that house, meaning the most mature. No wonder he prefers older guys. (Not a spoiler at all.) ( )

Such a fun book! The pool table scene was scorching. ( )

4.5 stars. The only thing keeping me from giving this a full 5 stars was that Julian's behavior was a little contradictory. He seemed to be a little amused by the relationship he sort of figured out was going on with his dad and Mal, but then he acted like a brat about it. I get what he saw was a surprise and his annoyance at not being told about it esp his dad being gay was justified, but how old is he?! Throwing a tantrum like a year old is not acceptable.

Piper Vaughn always knows how to get the characters chemistry and emotional connection through to her readers. I don't think I've ever read anything by her where I didn't feel emotionally connected to and invested in the MCs. When I got to the climax of this story, I just couldn't put it down. I wanted to cry for poor Mal, and I wanted to smack Julian and Aaron. I had to keep turning the page because I HAD to know if Julian grew up and let his dad and Mal be happy, and I HAD to know if Aaron would do the right thing and go after Mal. And yes I know this book wasn't written just by Piper Vaughn. I don't know much about Kade Boehme's writing as I have not read much by him, but I am looking forward to reading more of his books. ( )
