Sweet story about faith and second chances.

While it drove me crazy that Leigh didn't want to tell Ben that he was TJ's father I could empathize with her fears of what would happen afterwards. Ben being upset and TJ wondering why she lied to him. And add to that Ben's guilt of Tommy Rae dying while he was in charge of the teen group. The "woulda, coulda, shoulda" train of thought can paralyze a person's ability to love and connect with other people.

In the background in the murder of Leigh's brother Tony and is it connected to the shooting of Ben's dad, the former Sheriff? All I have to say is it wasn't obvious who the bad guy in charge was but you can figure it out fairly quickly.

It's a nice, sweet story with some intrigue to add a little spice to it. Want a nice afternoon distraction, this book fits the bill just right. ( )

This suspenseful read grabs you in the beginning and doesn't let go until the end. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline that includes the past and the present. I hadn't read the first book in this series which would have cleared up some questions if I had read it, but Patricia eventually clues the reader in. Leigh, the leading lady is a bit head strong and makes life difficult for the Sheriff Ben Logan in trying to protect her and her son, TJ. The mystery keeps one turning the pages to discover who the real killer is and what is behind all the strange occurrences. I liked the romance, the addition of some faith, and the clean writing. It's very entertaining and worth a few nights to stay up to read A Promise to Protect by Patricia Bradley!

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review by Net Galley and Revell. ( )

This review is provided to me by my sister MaKenzie, who graciously offered to read and review this book for me :-)

MY GENERAL THOUGHTS: A Promise to Protect had lots of twists and an unpredictable ending which really made me enjoy this book in ways that I don't get to often. The characters were very well made and I thoroughly enjoyed watching their stories unfold. The writing was easy to follow and also very easy to understand.

QUESTIONABLE CONTENT: Even though the synopsis implies a murder, there is no detail whatsoever in the matter, just some bleeding here and there among other matters. There are no sexual scenes, however some references to a sexual relationship before marriage.

RATING AND RECOMMENDATION: Because of the questionable content, I am only rating A Promise to Protect 4 out of 5 stars, but I did enjoy the storyline and will not hesitate to read another book by this author.

Small towns can be murder. Tony Jackson, small business CFO and big-time gambler, dies in Sheriff Ben Logan's arms. But not before hinting he knows who shot Ben's sheriff father and making Ben promise to protect Tony's beautiful sister, Dr. Leigh Somerall.

What an exciting ride this story is! A missing pen drive, stolen gun parts, a love triangle, secrets, and main characters constantly besieged by dangers (you'll have to read the book to see the varied kinds)! Wow!

I love how faith plays a prominent part in resolving the personal issues of the main characters, though it takes them a long time to do so. The Bible talks about working out our own salvation with fear and trembling. I also love the use of an I-Pad in the story in a special way!

One parting quotable, so true..."people are going to believe what they want to. Truth doesn't matter-- they'll go with what they think they see every time." (Deputy Wade Hatcher)

This may be book two in the series, but it stands alone quite well. However, I for one am going hunting for book one and eventually book three!!

I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review. ( )
