A priest is killed in a horrific manner and a black lotus is left at the scene. Lone Wolf, a smart detective with his own personal and professional issues, is called to assist in the investigation. When the killer murders again, Wolf sees a connection between the two murders and an old unsolved murder. When Wolf makes the connections, it leads him to the killer's next intended victim and a violent confrontation with the killer.

K'wan writes a tightly knit story that will keep the reader engaged from the beginning to the end. K'wan develops each character with just enough information about his/her past and present. Each character, with his/her interesting past plays a critical role in the story.The action is fast paced and the plot has some interesting twists. The ending is a surprise, and could lead to a sequel. The description of the murders are a bit graphic for me, but it fits the vigilante killer's style of rendering justice. Overall, this book is a good read and I recommend it.

This short story was very well done. When a local priest is killed in an especially gruesome manner, a local narcotics cop with a sketchy track record is called to help investigate. Despite the case being out of his jurisdiction, Detective James Wolf is known as being one of the the most persistent, cleverest and most determined cops on the force. He will do whatever it takes to find justice, even if that requires bending a few rules.

When Captain Marx sees the Black Lotus left near the crime scene he immediately understands that there is a far greater problem then just the crime at hand. The vigilante killer who leaves the Black Lotus will not stop the killing spree until all have met their maker. Despite his hesitancy to bring the Lone Wolf onto the case, the killer has left him no other choice. Secrets will be revealed, lives will be lost, and justice will be determined. With the greatest vigilante cop facing the greatest vigilante killer, this story is gripping from start to finish.

From page one this story moves. The main character is referred to as Lone Wolf as he doesn't play well with others, runs with scissors, etc. In fact, he has been written up so many times for his inability to get along with partners that he now works alone & is on thin ice with the department. His friend, Captain Marx, calls him in on a homicide. A priest has been butchered and strung up in his church as cows are in a butcher shop, hanging from chains. Wolf takes a look at the crime scene and sees something that may tie this murder to a cold case.

Wolf's methods would hardly be tolerated in a real police department. I gave this five stars for the way it is written. There isn't a lot of unnecessary dialogue, side stories or other mechanisms that add pages. Everything in the pages pertains to the story. (

Wanted to give this a 3.5, bring it up a bit, but too many loose ends that just magically resolved and weren't examined. I get that the book is short, but still, when you hit me with the big stuff, I want to know why. Plus, too graphic at times, just uncalled for how graphic it is. Yikes. Otherwise, tight plot with a maligned lead character and an interesting killer that kept the pace super quick. Would be intrigued by more if they clean it up a bit. (

This is a good book, kind of a gritty down to earth mystery. It reminds me of NCIS LA on TV and maybe Easy Rollins. Interesting characters and an unusual plot! I esp. like the character Lone Wolf who is a tough cop but not afraid to bend the rules to stop the evil ones. I want to read more of K'wan books. I recommend it. (
