I think I would have loved this if I had read as a teenager. Being much past that, it was familiar. I believe the author captured all the high school feelings of wanted to be accepted, of fitting in and being popular. ( )

The book paints a very convincing portrait of the little jealousies, rivalries, triumphs, and rules. I think, though, I wanted more from it than that. The parking rules seem mostly about what boys want and how soon the girls can shut them down, although Snowy has some kind of glancing awareness of her own sexuality. It is only glancing, though, and when she gives the old friend she’s been dating (among other boys) after Tom a blow job, certainly she’s doing him a favor. Tom’s orgasms come long before Snowy’s, and when they Go All The Way, it seems like a goodbye present for him. Not that it wasn’t very convincing, it just wasn’t (no pun intended) very satisfying. I would have liked to have seen more into Snowy’s heart; the reader is held rather at a distance. Her final decision to break up with Tom was too unexpected, because I didn’t know enough about Snowy—she had been miserable without Tom, who was so inspired by Snowy that he changed his major to English. I would at least have liked to have seen Snowy move past the pleasure for boys stage, instead of only briefly getting past it (with the cunnilingus that seems a consolation for Bev’s being prom queen) and then returning to it with blow jobs for casual dates.
