This little DK reader manages to accomplish a lot in just 261 words. With the help of some great photos from the Star Wars movies, Simon Beecroft manages to discuss many different kinds of friendships and what can bind people, and help them to become friends.

The book starts with the following text from two pages, after which it focuses on different pairs and groups of Star Wars characters.

The Star Wars galaxy
is a place where great
adventures happen.

Along the way, great
friendships are made
as well.

Some friends, for example, are defined as great teams where people aren't alike. Anakin is fearless while Obi-Wan is wise. Other teams are good because the friends enjoy the same activities, and so forth.

What's fun and really useful, are observations like 'some friends don't like each other at first', and that some do like each other and pretend they don't. (Guess who that may be?)

For adults there is just a lot of useful material here that they can use to start conversations. For young readers though, who are at the 2nd Grade Reading Level, there are just fabulous photos of characters they love and love to hate.

I particularly like how the book ends with the question of who (in the picture) the reader would want to be friends with, and who they wouldn't like to be friends with.

I think this would be a great addition to school book baskets. Teachers should know that there is an Accelerated Reading test available for this book if their schools use those to see how children are progressing. Lexile: 440L
