Winner of 9 national book awards, Do Not Go Quietly is an inspiring call to action and guide to a life of greater meaning, consciousness, and passion for those "who weren't born yesterday"--GenXers, Boomers, and Elders. It also speaks honestly and eloquently to those under 40 who want to better navigate the path ahead and better understand the world for which they will soon be responsible. It reminds us all that when we turn away from what we are passionate about, we dim the light of our intellect, depress our energies, diminish our health, and prevent ourselves from achieving the very thing we came here to this earth to accomplish--living the lives we were born to live. So, if you are in, or are approaching the second half of life, this book invites you to take the matter of how and why you live back into your own hands. It encourages you to use the tremendous power and resources available to you to ensure that you do not slip quietly and meekly into the background, but instead live your life with the dignity, purpose, and quality of experience you deserve.… (más)

I'm not sure I'll get through this book, but it makes good points, so far. It's not riveting reading yet. It will go slowly so the review may be awhile in coming.
_____________

Slowly the book is being read because I keep it in a bathroom and make a few moments to read a page, a couple paragraphs. It's surprising how that adds up. This book has good ideas/suggestions but it's written in a wordy manner. It probably could have been a forth the size it is and more readable. I'll get through it.

I finished the book in the just manner described above, which is actually very good for a book like this one. I absorbed more of it slowly. If you're an older adult, you probably already know some of the things in the book from life experience, but there's something here for most everyone. It's good to be reminded of ways we can be better to each other and pass on something worthwhile to our children and grandchildren. Leave the world a better place and lead by example -- those are the main themes and there's plenty of good advice here and thoughtful pathways.

Chapters are short. I liked the one near the end entitled, What We Can't Take With Us. We know these things and maybe we've had experiences that bring this home, maybe we haven't. The theme of this chapter is one we need to live by as we age. American culture is so opposite to this and we're one of the few cultures in the world that doesn't seem to value the wisdom of our elders. That needs to change, for all of us. Something precious is being lost forever. ( )

This is a guide on how to approach life after 50. I found the first part of the book a bit fluffy and abstract. The second half included much more practical information, including exercises.

There are many individual stories throughout the book of people who accomplished significant things in the second half of lives. I found these to be s motivational as the text itself. ( )

Do Not Go Quietly
A Guide to Living Consciously and Aging Wisely
for People Who Weren't Born Yesterday
by George & Sedena Cappannelli

What an enlightened wake up call this 286 page gentle giant was for me. The authors had a way of getting right in there with stories, suggestions and exercises that could help me to review where I have been and get a better handle on where I am going.

I loved the many topics apt for those in the last half of their life cycle, and my favorite was the way they helped me to look at death and shared different reasons why people are afraid to die. I was concerned the topic was going to be morbid, but it was actually freeing and quite refreshing. I would recommend this blessed eye-opener to anyone at any stage of their life who is looking for a blueprint of healthy living. Thank you both, awesome book, awesome title.

Love & Light,
