This is a poem famous for two lines, "Will shall be keener, Heart will be greater, As our Might Lessens!" It is a poem about a defeat of the English by a Viking force. The Vikings having been trapped on an island, and then, the English allowed them to cross a narrow causeway and fight where both sides could spread out their battle lines fully. This was unwise for the English, so perhaps the moral of the poem may have been "Don't give your opponent a fair fight, that way they might win! Keep your advantages, they are hard to come by!" But both the beginning and the end of the work are missing, so we won't know. The surviving bits read very well, even in the old English, I've been told. But it wasn't a popular work.
