Comic book collecting eighteen individual issues of tie-ins to the first season of the Arrow TV show. Each issue is a little vignette that either fills in something we knew about but didn't get to see from the show or just provides an extra little adventure. A bit meh for me, mostly because the nature of the thing is episodic and not terribly meaty. A few of the vignettes were pretty interesting, but on the whole, my attention wandered. The attention here is more on the action and adventure where my interest in Arrow leans way more toward character, so, you know, YMMV. I do find (through reading this and other comics and graphic novels I've read recently) that I really enjoy this kind of visual narrative. This is a dark story and Arrow isn't always a nice guy. Spoiled rich guy survives near death and returns seeking vengeance and to rid his city of crime. Several issues in the collection introduce characters that I'm sure will have more to say later on in the series. A dark and gritty hero that I'll be interested in reading more. Digital review copy provided by the publisher through Edelweiss Disclaimer: I received this book free from DC Entertainment in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any form of compensation. Growing up, I didn't really do too much of the typical little girl things. Instead, I had my nose buried in comic books, watching sci-fi shows, and playing video games. The entertainment industry has recently been taking beloved comic books and producing them into TV shows and movies. One of my favorite TV shows is Arrow based off of DC Comics Super Hero Green Arrow. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the guy they have playing Arrow/Ollie is extremely hot! Arrow Volume 1 holds Arrow comics 1-6 and special edition 1. These comics take place in the first season of the show Arrow. They aren't rip offs of the actual show. Instead, they show you things that happen between episodes. So it gives a little more continuity. The comics also are set up like the shows where you are flashing from present day to Ollie's past on the island. The art work is incredible. They drew the characters as they look on the show in order to lend even more credence to them being part of the show series. Even if you have never watched the show, but are a huge DC comics fan, then you will want to check out Arrow Volume 1. But let me give you fair warning, you will definitely want to tune into the TV show. Thankfully, season 2 starts on October 9th. I am counting down the days! Arrow is a CW's action-adventure tv series based on the Marvel character Green Arrow but rehashed much like Batman Begins. Marc Guggenheim wrote this companion graphic novel to complement the first 23 episodes of the tv series. If you haven't watch the full tv series, some of the content in this book can be spoilerish and out-of-place as it is intended to be a side story of sort that was omitted out of the television run. If you followed the tv series, it also was filled with a lot of backstory but most of it was focus on Oliver's 5-years time in the Purgatory island. The novel acts as an additional bridge to the events from the show and it add more to the existing character development especially from the side characters (Laurel, her father, Ollie's family, etc). The TV focus more on what Oliver does more than it does around the characters around him. This graphic novel show how Oliver and the people close to him was affected by the events that made him 'The Vigilante' which from the season two promo, he won't be using that name either. There were a lot of vital character's story that wasn't included inside this novel and most noted Malcolm Merlyn and his backstory and a lot of the main recurring cast like Felicity, Laurel herself, a lot of the villains. So I think they're saving it for the second season. By far, I enjoy the graphic novel immensely. If you're the original Green Arrow fan who don't want to watch the tv or you only heard about the show and went through this novel, you won't get much of it as its intended to be a companion and not a graphic novelization. There's not much a tv spoiler inside this graphic novel as most of the story revolve around The Dark Archer and the Undertaking so there's not much inside this comic would spoil that for you.
