Farms of Cape Cod brings the reader to the farms and farmers cultivating the finest fruit, flowers, produce, oysters, herbs, eggs and honey in this historic region. The farms create beautiful landscapes, provide nutritious food, and connect us to the land. As the desire for local, organically grown food flourishes and the locavore movement grows, it is important to know where our food comes from. Farms of Cape Cod reacquaints us with our cultural heritage and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the wonders of farming. Twenty-eight unique farms are profiled, with harvests ranging from cranberries, lavender, and grapes to livestock, holly, and shellfish. Each farm's address and operating information is provided, as well as information about their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscriptions. This beautifully illustrated book also offers "Tips from the Top," the farmers' proven ideas on planting, growing and cooking.… (más)

This book is amazing, though perhaps it has limited appeal.

The book is exactly what the title states - it's a snapshot of the various farms in Cape Cod. Gorgeous photography of the farms, famers, crops, flowers, animals, and even pets, are the focal point of the book. The text outlines the history of the farm & the farmer, what crops are grown, where you can buy the crops, if they have CSAs or not, and hints and tricks from the farmers for your own garden.

The book definitely focus on the "pretty" - living art, as "they" like to call it.

Any "good" book review shares the good and the bad, and I had to think a bit to come up with any "bad" comments, and my only negative is that the book in a way reads as an advertisement for the farms, and like I said in my first line, the book has limited appeal. My parents certainly shop farm stands & my dad grew up on a farm & we have our own small garden, and we live in MA, so you'd think they'd enjoy this book, but I can't see them sitting down and reading it, let alone purchasing it - though I think they'd appreciate it as a gift. If your heart beats a little faster when you see a roadside fruit stand, a field of wildflowers transports your imagination, or fresh farm eggs taste just a little bit better, then this photo tour of Cape Code farms and their farmers will be a welcome armchair tourist guide. Short profiles accompany bountiful photos. Recommended. (62) ( )
