A love story about two souls fated to be together this story is a fantasy based on Earthly history and Heavenly myth. Earth is a hell mouth that must be guarded by Heaven against incursions of the evil Moloch. Middle East conflicts through the millennia are background for the battles fought between Moloch's and Heaven's agents.
Azrael is a young scientist sent to earth to observe. He became attached to the young girl he was observing and died trying to save her. After his death he became the Angel of Death who job was to help souls to let go of their earthly bodies. He cannot touch anyone without killing them, until he meets Elisabeth. He watches over her through the years and despite the scars from the night they met which left her lame, orphaned, and lonely, she goes on to become a military nurse. While the battles rage, Azrael and Elisabeth romance blossoms.
The secondary characters like Lucifer and the other agents of Heaven are also very interesting and add to the story in a positive way. ( )

Jeg mottok "Angel of Death (a love story)" fra Anna Erishkigal via LibraryThings "Member Giveaways" program.

A real life battle of the Gods
Angel of Death is a nice, easy to read story, of love and longing, that inspires you to look beyond the veils of preconceptions and propaganda that surround us.

I like stories that explores the borders of ethics and preconceptions. "Angel of Death" manages this as a natural part of the epic.
It is nice to encounter a fantasy book set outside of the "Lord of the Rings" mythos that is prewailing today. Anna Erishkigal uses the Pantheon of Gods, demons, and angels found in Christianity, Islam and other religions that stem from the middle east, and meld them into a lively pantheon.
The Gods as a group use intrigue and petty fights amongst themselves over trivialities and old grudges. They don't resemble the reverent Gods of today but appear as a living unit of varied goals.
The characters and pantheon are very vivid and the protagonists appear to be nice people with deepset wishes.
I find "Angel of Death" to be a pleasant read that I will recommend for those who want to read somthing out of the ordinary.

I received "Angel of Death (a love story)" from Anna Erishkigal through LibraryThings "Member Giveaways" program. I am happy to reciprocate with this glowing review as I enjoyed her novel very much.

Not my type of book, but this was well written and somewhat captivating, i did find it easy to put aside as i wasn't so much captivated by the characters but wanted to follow the story to the end. ( )

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this world if fantasy and was swept up into by the end of the first chapter. I never read anything by this author before but am looking forward to reading more now. This book did have a few parts that some religious people may take offense at but it is all part of the stage of this book. All in all it was a masterfully written fantasy tale. ( )
