I love Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series, and this book was no exception. The story of Alex and Eve is a bittersweet story, one of misplaced needs, communications, and assumptions. Alex and Eve never really discussed what had happened to Eve years earlier and pretending to be in a D/s relationship while being divorced didn’t help matters, or bring them any closer to a resolution.. Alex and Eve never stopped loving each other; they just lost their way, and let other priorities cloud what was really important in the long run.

This is the story of Alex and Eve finding their way back to each other. All characters primary and supporting had good roles, not a lot to develop here as we have known most of the Taggart-McKay family for 4 previous books now. The surprise was in the new characters that were introduced, Kristin and Jessie. I became very fond of Kristin and knew in the back of my mind that she would play and important part in Ian’s life somehow, a part of me suspected that she would become a love interest, but until the twist I didn’t expect the history between them I was also glad that the gang has embraced Jessie as he seems to have been a pawn of so many people, he deserves to be on the side of good for a change. I hope to see more of Jessie in future books.

There were a few spots where the romance between Alex and Eve did bog down, but the mystery/suspense part of the story helped that along. I have to say that the author has help move the BIG story lines seamlessly through these 5 books, and although some have been resolved we do still have at least one of the recurring themes to still be worked/resolved. The sex was hot and I especially liked Alex when he became his “caveman” Dom/alpha male, vs. the man who just went through the motions to have the time with Eve. There were also some great one liners, and times when I just laughed out loud. Overall a solid 4 star read for me, and very excited to see what happen next when Ian gets his story.

First let me say that I love Lexi Blake or Sophie Oak or whatever name she wants to write under. She can write some of the best characters and I always look forward to her stories. I am kind of sad that I read this book out of order. I hate when that happens. Now I am going to have to go back and read A DOM IS FOREVER. Also being a big James Bond fan I love the titles of this series. This is Alex and Eve McKay's story.

One of the first things that struck me is that these two should have been put in a room and made to get the collective asses together. They have both lived through five years of hell because they wouldn't communicate with each other. Communication is one of the most important things in any relationship and imperative in a BDSM relationship. Alex is a caring and snuggly Dom and is afraid the his wife is too fragile to keep doing the scenes that they both loved before she was kidnapped. Being an alpha male he is more concerned with protecting her than pushing her boundaries. Eve is a smart, intelligent and intuitive woman. She has been profiling for the FBI and then McKay-Taggart Security Services. She is a psychologist but she can't see that she has been topping Alex for five years.

When these two finally get their act together they burn up the pages. They are a perfect match for each other and all those around them know it. I was glad that Eve kept her wits about her when she was kidnapped again. Remembering Alex and that he would come for her. Alex also kept things together and finally relied on the team that was backing him up. He went after Eve and let his team take out the bad guys.

There are several new characters in this story. Simon is the first. He is also the reason I need to read the missing book. I want to know more about the man and what his story is. I also hope that Ms. Blake will write a story for Jesse at some point. It would be nice to see him get redemption and a happily ever after. He does come through in the end for Alex and Eve. The final character is Kristen. I am sure she is the one responsible for making Ian's life hell. Some of the things that she does to him had me laughing. I am looking forward to reading her and Ian's story.

This is a wonderful book and the BDSM is on the mild side. There is some bondage, spanking and exhibitionism and lots of hot steamy sex. We also get to read about Sean, Grace, Serena, Adam and Jake. I also learned that Liam has found his mate, Avery. This is the book that I am missing. This story is a quick read, especially the last half. I highly recommend this book to all those that love the Domination and submission that this series is known for. ( )
