Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her "special abilities" aren't much, but the plan is simple-she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it's bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He's a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.Etienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years-long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can't stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she's exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger, too. He'll have to accept Krysta's help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher . . .… (más)

I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!

Who knew that I'd fall so hard for Immortal Guardians and their mates. Seth and David, the more I learn about these two immortals the more I want to know. I love the fact that though they could quickly overtake the story they play just the right authority to keep it going and yet weave the whole series in to one amazing saga.

Etienne and Krysta, the way they banter, love, and fight is so carefree and loving you can't help but smile. I like the fact that we see her brother, Sean, and how he is going to find a place in the network. Could it be he will have his own story in the future?

The introduction of this new, dark, possibly evil Zach and his connection to Ami.....oh my.....have to read the next book if this is who we are dealing with!
And what the heck...Seth controls the weather? Just what kind of power does this immortal wield? And does David have this same level of power? Just one thing that bothered me....Seth claims to keep track of all gifted ones; when they are born, transform/die....how did he not know of Krysta and her entire family, especially since Sean is a healer?

Armed with her knives and her ability to see auras, the heroine stalks the night for the creatures who stalk vulnerable people. Though she's human and fragile, she risks her life every night in order to kill vampires and protect the people around her. One night, her whole world changes. When she's confronted by a rather large gang of the undead and she thinks she's bitten off more than she can chew, she's saved by the most unlikely of heroes. It's quite evident that he's a vampire himself but even from the start she knows he's something different. He's not evil, that's plain to see but he's also the most gorgeous man she's ever seen. After that night, she realizes that she's being followed-protected-by this man. He tells her that he's an Immortal, one of the good guys and like her, he hunts the vampires nightly but he does it with expert skill and an organization behind him. When they are targeted by mercenaries-humans who kill vampires and immortals alike, the heroine and her brother are brought into the immortals world. Together, the hero and heroine battle through the unsalvageable vampires for the newly turned, hoping to bring them over to the light side. I liked this book but I did find it sort of lacking. I'll start with the positive. First off, I really enjoyed the heroine. She went out every night to kill vampires, knowing that she's mortal, that she'll most likely be hurt and in fact is injured after every encounter. But she keeps at it because she believes what she's doing is the right thing. Also, she was realistic and logical. When it becomes apparent that she's a liability to the hero as she is, she offers to let them turn her so she can be of more use. That's a strong woman in my book. Secondly, I liked the hero because he wasn't a tortured soul in need of saving. He was kind and funny and very French but far from the moody angsty hero that is usual present in this genre. HOWEVER. The very fact that the hero and heroine were good natured people, very level and hunky dorey made for a rather slow paced and frustratingly monotone story line. I wanted a bit more angst. It was just all too 'easy' more my taste. I wanted more conflict, more passion, just...more. As I said, despite this I liked this story and the characters but I wasn't in love. ( )

Darkness Rises is the fourth book in the Immortal Guardians series, and if you haven't started this series yet you are really missing out. In fact, this series has quickly become one of my new favorites. Dianne Duvall has a very engaging style of writing and I always fly right through her books and can't wait to read more when I'm finished. Her books never disappoint me!

This book is Etienne and Krysta's story and it was really good. Although we've read a bit about Etienne in previous books, Krysta is new to this series. She is a gifted one that has been fighting vampires using her special ability (and hers is one that is pretty cool) along with her gifted brother in order to rid the streets of all vampires. Until this point she has been doing exceedingly well considering she doesn't have the immortal guardian's strength and speed, but the increase in vampires in the area recently has started to take it's toll and that is how Etienne finds her.

With Krysta's lack of knowledge of immortal guardians she initially thinks Etienne is also a vampire, so their relationship starts out rocky. Along with their story we find out more about the other characters from the previous books, so fans of the series will love finding out what their favorite characters have been up to. Personally I can't wait to find out more about Zach and the origins of Seth and the rest of the immortals, I've got ideas but I can't wait to see how much I've got right.

Although you could probably read this book as a standalone and understand basically what's going on, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of this series because it is so worth it. There are bigger story lines going on than what you could grasp with just this one book. I've given every book in this series at least a four, if not a five, star review and they are all worth the time to read them! ( )

I read this book before knowing it was really #4 in the series. I'll need to read it again after getting the others before I determine whether or not it can stay on the shelf ( )
