It's hard enough being one half of the world's least identical twins, without both of you falling for the same guy. Jolene's turned flirting into a fine art, but Jody? Not so much. And as if a twinny love triangle wasn't messy enough . . . there's something nobody knows about Jody Barton. Something BIG. Told with the trademark warmth and laugh-out-loud humour of the much-loved Lottie Biggs books, this is a book that will make you think, with a gobsmacking twist you won't believe.… (más)

Charming and delightful! This novel takes you from frivolity to heart-wrenching melancholy and then to regular happiness. Jody and Jody's twin sister Jolene fall for the same guy at the same time. Hijinks ensue, and then gritty realism ensues. If you want to read a book where caring adults intervene to stop bullying, keep searching.

I liked the illustrations, the math jokes, and the fun British phrases like "jog right off." The one thing I did not like about this book was the design of the text where some words were larger than others. I think it's messy and distracting and is a lazy way to make some phrases more important or sound like shouting. Because the writing is good, all of that comes through anyway and so the big letters are unnecessary.

PS. My edition has a pink background to the cover and is way cuter than the one pictured here. The back cover says the cover illustration is by Steph Says Hello. I think it's awesome! ( )

Me and my sister are twins. She's Jolene and I'm Jody. We've both got brown hair, we're both left-handed and we both have these weirdly long little toes which make us look like long-toed mutants. But apart from that, I'd say we're fairly different. Well, actually, we're a lot different...

Jody and Jolene Barton are twins. Jody and Jolene both instantly fall in love with the hot guy who walks into their parents' diner. Jody's bedroom is covered in posters of River Phoenix, whom Jody swears this new hot guy could pass as. But it's instantly not your typical love triangle, because Jody has a secret. A BIG secret.

WHAT'S UP WITH JODY BARTON is a funny look at being a teenager in modern middle class London, not caring about the crazy football culture of England (even if your bedroom happens to overlook Wembley Stadium), and having a forbidden crush on the guy who looks just like your beloved bedroom posters of River Phoenix. As others have said, there's a lot which can't be reviewed here, as there is a lot which shouldn't be given away. I can say, though, that the story is told from the point of view of Jody, and 15 year old teenager. Jody and Jolene are twins, and they have a rather typical relationship, often bickering, but close at the same time. The trouble starts when they both fall for the same boy, with wide ranging consequences.

The style is perfectly pitched at teens, with a simple chatty style, with just the right touch of humour. My own teen daughter rarely reads, but has already started this one after taking a quick look. However, this style is not overdone, making it a pleasurable read for adults too.

Looking at relationships, cyber bullying, and accepting yourself, this is an important book for teens to read.
