This isn’t a “whodunit” mystery. Readers discover early in the story the identity of the serial killer, so the majority of the read is to find out who will become the next victim and how this overconfident killer can be caught.
There are three point-of-views used to tell the story: the police detectives Jennifer and Blake who have a strong attraction to one another, as well as the antagonistic murderer. Having the killer’s perspective explaining what drives his motivation to kill only increases the complexity of the story and heightens the suspense.
Jennifer is a strong, gutsy character and very likeable. Blake is a wonderful partner for Jennifer in more ways than one. I did find the violence in the book gruesome and sometimes hard to get through because the detailed description of the torture the victims endured.
This is a great trilogy for readers who enjoy mysteries full of romance and suspense. ( )
