This is the 5th book in the Alvarez/Pescoli series. It's Christmas Eve (again) and Regan Pescoli has just arrived at the Sheriff's house to hand in her resignation when he is shot and his dog takes off. The Sheriff's department is immediately investigating who would want to shoot the sheriff and hoping he recovers from his wounds. Then, a local judge is killed and they are trying to determine if and how the events are connected. ( )

I really felt that any mystery, or suspense was overshadowed by all of the family drama. I also didn't feel like there was much suspense in this book. ( )

Regan Pescoli is on her way to see sheriff Grayson with some important news when she sees him shot by a sniper. Pescoli and her partner Selena Alvarez investigate the sheriffs shooting and the death of a judge. This is part of a series and I haven't read any other books in the series but it was easy to figure out what was going on. Unfortunately at least half the book is given over to discussing the characters soap opera like lives and the crime was pretty easy to solve. ( )
