After the loss of his wife in a tragic accident, beloved artist Danny Gregory chronicled his grief in the medium he knows best--the pages of his illustrated journals. This intimate volume reproduces these journal pages in a stirring visual memoir of Gregory's journey towards recovery. Uniquely sincere, and by turns tender, raw, and hopeful, Gregory's idiosyncratic text and illustrations capture the darkest and lightest moments of his "year of magical drawing." Gregory's process reminds us that creative expression offers its own therapy, and that living each day to its fullest may be as simple as putting pen to paper. Anyone who has experienced loss will take solace in this refreshingly candid look at grieving, while art lovers will marvel at the artist's beautiful celebration of the power of creation.… (más)

If you've encountered Danny Gregory's work before but haven't met him in this book yet, this is his pinnacle for me. If you haven't yet encountered Danny, start here.

Danny's visual journals - watercolor images and handwritten text - carry an emotional weight that mere words don't. And this book, written as he grieved the sudden death of his wife, will make you misty and show you a way forward in dark times.

Danny shows me how the combination of imagery and text can combine to be greater than the whole. His two surveys of this creative approach , using a variety of authors, [b:An Illustrated Life|8895439|An Illustrated Life|Danny Gregory|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348773982s/8895439.jpg|3288384] and [b:An Illustrated Journey: Inspiration from the Private Art Journals of Traveling Artists, Illustrators and Designers|17989456|An Illustrated Journey Inspiration from the Private Art Journals of Traveling Artists, Illustrators and Designers|Danny Gregory|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1369820447s/17989456.jpg|21622382], are well done and broad summaries.

This book in particular is powerfully emotive. ( )

This was absolutely heart-wrenching. You can actually feel his pain while reading the passages and the illustrations are beautiful. I loved this book and am interested to read more of his work. ( )
