On June the 21st,1919 the ships of the German Fleet,interned by the allies, were scuttled by their own crews at Scapa Flow in the Orkneys. Between 1924 and 1931 a salvage operation took place in a attempt to raise as many as possible and to sell them for scrap. This was a difficult job and one not without some danger.
The story here presented uses these basic facts and adds an exciting adventure in the style of John Buchan or Geoffrey Household. A German who is posing as British attempts to obtain articles from the safe of the raised 'Prinzregent Rudolf' in which he served. To do this he first used a diplomatic approach and when this does not work,he turns to sabotage.
Captain Dorling (or 'Taffrail as he is more usually know) deserves to be better read today as his work is as good if not better than many similar writers. ( )
