With the Scooby gang on the skids, Buffy finds herself increasingly alone. When faced with some tough decisions grounded in "real world" problems (i.e., not the slaying of pesky demons), Buffy is determined to make her own choices, but that doesn't mean she won't need a little handholding along the way. These are always more entertaining when Andrew's part of the plot, even if he does seem to have the abilities of a super-scientist. The plot went from serious to silly very quickly, but it all still had the essence of Buffy and was enjoyable to read. The flashbacks with Nikki were a nice addition.

I have to say, I was interested in where Chambliss was going with the plot at the beginning, not that I was eager for Buffy to get an abortion, but the whole storyline of Buffy being pregnant was gripping stuff. Then with the robot business. I'm not as angry as some reviewers were about that, but I have to say it was pretty weak. If he hadn't wanted to take that story to one of two inevitable conclusions, he shouldn't have started it. I suppose when something like this is read as a whole, it's easy to forget that these were individual issues that he was getting feedback on after each one. Maybe he saw it as too big a risk to continue or was responding to popular demand. I don't know. It was obvious backpedaling, whatever his reasons.

Recommended for diehard Buffy fans who have been following along since the series went to comics. ( )

Pretty classic Buffy form, including personal life scares, androids, and a scary nutso chick with lots of time on her hands. Stepford Buffy was kinda nostalgic, too. ( )

Love the continuing saga of Buffy and the Scoobies and Spike. ( )

Buffy joins a bunch of ex-slayers who have become mercenaries in the post-magic world. Not as strong as the first volume in this series. ( )

This comic continues in a similar vein as the earlier (season 8 & 9) Buffy comics. If you liked those, you'll probably like this. While I enjoyed it, it has some of the same flaws. There's a lot of weird going on: zompires, Spike's bugs, a Buffybot; such that it feels a bit overwhelming. And while there's glimmers of it returning in this volume, I think the comics suffer for not having the Scooby gang (fighting monsters & apocalypses) at their core. ( )
