Gr 1-3, Birtie is just a humorously gross kid. In this series by Capstone, the books are broken up into three stories making them great for beginning chapter book readers. When Birtie’s sister has to stay home from school sick with the chicken pox, Birtie does all that he can to ensure he does not have to go to school, after all, he didn’t do his homework. He even goes as far to use her toothbrush (yuck!). In the next episode, Birtie is forced to compete in a dance contest with his grandma. When the big competition day comes, Birtie discovers the magic of itching powder when dealing with the other competitors. The last episode, Birtie gets the babysit of any kids dreams. This babysit doesn’t care what Birtie does, what he eats, what he watches, when he goes to bed - it’s a real free for all. But things get a little out of hand even for Birtie. This series would be well read by lovers of Dav Pilkey and Jeff Kinney. ( )
