Summary: This book covers every President that has ever been in the White House. It talks about a very often forgot about person: The President's Mother. We hear an awful lot about the President's wives and children, but never about the very person that shaped their lives. Each story is different and it is interesting to see how President's were brought up.
Genre: Picture Book
Review: I enjoyed this book and thought the topic was extremely creative and interesting. I was surprised to learn how much of a role the mothers had on shaping the lives of their successful children. This is a great book to teach about the Presidents because it is kind of silly and makes them seem a lot more human.

An entertaining and interesting collection of brief profiles of each mother (and stepmother for Lincoln) of every president. Some mothers, especially those of our least distinguished presidents, rate only half a column while others get a half-page spread. Readers will learn lots of interesting, insightful facts. Washington seems to have had the meanest mom. Lincoln apparently inherited his love of wrestling from his mother and love of books from his stepmother. Eisenhower's mother was surprisingly a lifelong pacifist. ( )

PSC REVIEW: This book’s concept will be welcomed into your library collection as a book to “flesh out” the lives of America’s Presidents. Short biographies, none more than one page in length, tell snippets of information about the mothers of our leaders. If nothing else, it shows how little information was available about females in earlier history. The author has managed to find a lot of interesting information. For example Franklin Pierce’s mother loved to shock her Puritan neighbors by wearing bright clothes. The stories are accompanied by cartoon pictures. Many of the mothers appear to be drawn from the same template. Did they really look alike? Some of the captions in the cartoons will be too sophisticated for the readers and a lack of source notes even for the quotations is a major missing piece. Even with these detractions kids will enjoy reading the book. These ladies from history come alive as individuals with personality and determination. ( )
