( ) Once again, Septimus, Jenna, Beetle, Marcia and the supporting cast of Heaps have to battle the Darke. This time, two evil wizards escape their imprisonment in the two-faced ring, as alchemist Marcellus Pye is working covertly to rebuild the Fyre that will kill them. Aunt Zelda, Wolf Boy, even Hotep Ra, and the Dragon Boat all play important roles in helping our heroes vanquish the Darke. As always, Mark Zug's illustrations are a high point too. I'm sorry to come to the end of this series, though it was a satisfying end. Septimus finally settles into his role as a magic wielder, his family have been reconciled (including Simon, who has fully recovered from his time as a dark magic practicer), and even Marcia & Marcellus are reconciled to each other and to the way their two powers can work harmoniously with each other. I liked especially the glimpses of technology in this final installment. Due to popular request, this review is written by guest blogger, Flagon the Fierce and Friendly Welsh Dragon! YAY!
